Executive Director

The Executive Director of the FPD/AHPE is John J. (“Jack”) Seddon and he has held this position since 1989. Prior to this role, he served as assistant to the president of the FEA (Florida Education Association)/United/AFT/AFL-CIO, and as Executive Director of the Sarasota Classified Teacher Association in Florida. And prior to that he served as a professional air traffic controller, whereas he held several staff and elected positions within its union, PATCO/AFSCME, to which he is its current Executive Director.

Jack Seddon served in the United States Air Force, the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and in the New York Air National Guard. He attended the Jack Maher School for Labor Studies and holds a BA degree from the George Meany Institute, Antioch University, and a MA in labor and policy studies from Empire State College, SUNY (1990).

Jack is a respected and experienced union negotiator. He handles all aspects of union representation, including grievances, arbitration, unfair labor practices, lobbying, and political action. He has testified for legislative and congressional committees and is familiar with all areas of labor-management.

Early biographical data indicates that Jack was an activist even in his early childhood. At the age of eleven he was a newspaper carrier in New York and pulled off the first paperboy strike on Long Island - and won! At age 14 he engineered a caddy strike at the Crescent Club in Huntington, NY - and won. In 1967, he went to work for the FAA as an air traffic controller. PATCO was born as a result of his and many others’ efforts.

As a product of his labor, the Tallahassee-based FPD/AHPE now has thousands of members from around the State of Florida and the nation. The FPD/AHPE is affiliated with NUHHCE of which Jack is a national Vice-President.
