ALERT!
PMSA-PEU upon learning of the payroll error
in Lake Worth
This went out on July 21, 2008
“Fellow City Employee,
The City’s Finance Department experienced a payroll system error when
processing last week’s payroll. The error involved a mistake in
calculating estimated withholding taxes for personal exemptions reported
on your W-4 form. This caused a higher amount of estimated income tax to
be withheld for City employees claiming one or more exemptions."
The Finance Department sincerely apologizes for this payroll system
error. We have worked tirelessly over the past two days to correct
(reduce) the amount of estimated withholding tax from last week’s
payroll check to you and to issue the attached supplemental pay check.
This supplemental check reflects correction (reduction) of your
estimated withholding taxes from last week’s payroll check.
Again, our Finance Department is truly sorry for the payroll processing
error that caused an unusual amount of estimated income tax to be
withheld from some City payroll checks last week We very much appreciate
your patience and understanding in the steps we’ve taken to correct this
problem and provide the attached supplemental pay to you.
Sincerely, Mark Bates, Administrative Services Director "

Two employees were
represented by the Union at a termination hearing. Both employees
chose to resign versus pursuing arbitration.
